Knowsley youngster in House of Commons debate
A young person from Kirkby will represent Knowsley in a debate on the famous green leather benches at the House of Commons on Friday.
Dominic Armstrong fromSPARK, Shout Participation & Rights in Knowsley, will join over 300 Members of the UK Youth Parliament to debate the issues that matter the most to them.
The Members (known as MYPs), work year round to represent the views of young people in their area. Dominic will represent Knowsley in a discussion on the five most popular issues voted for by more than 60,000 young people in an online poll.
Dominic, 17, is a committed local campaigner who was first elected to the UK Youth Parliament in 2010. Earlier this year he met Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg at the Positive for Youth Summit in London, where Dominic questioned Mr Clegg on the Governments decision to raise student tuition fees.

“It’s so exciting to actually get to visit the House of Commons, never mind hold our debate in the room where crucial decisions about the country are frequently made,” said Dominic.
“It’s a huge honour and privilege, and I’m sure it will make our debating skills even stronger on the day. I’ll be reporting back to SPARK about how I get on raising the issues important to young people in Knowsley.”
Cllr Wright Cabinet Knowsley’s Member for Children and Family Services, said:
“What a fantastic opportunity for Dominic and all the young people involved in the House of Commons debate. It will give them a real taste of life in Parliament which is bound to further inspire their interest, involvement and engagement with both local and national politics.”
Among the topics being discussed will be the provision of public transport for young people, a graduate tax as an alternative to tuition fees, and zero tolerance towards bullying in schools. The event forms part of Parliament Week, and the young people will also have the opportunity to meet Members of Parliament and other national influencers.
